| CONSULTATION with a doctorShe can recommend holistic treatments and activities to help you make maximum benefit of your stay, and if necessary advise on an appropriate food menu to be followed throughout your stay. In addition to the wide range of Ayurvedic programmes, some Western spa treatments are available to help you feel rested and rejuvenated. |
At Neeleshwar we practise genuine Ayurvedic treatments in the traditional way, in collaboration with the Sahayadri Foundation, one of the few 100% organic herbal medicine manufacturers in India. We take great care to ensure that all the preparations we use are completely natural and organically produced, and are sourced in a way that does not impact negatively on the environment. To do this we employ disadvantaged tribal groups in the Sahayadri mountains in Kerala, guaranteeing them stable employment, fair wages and social improvements. We operate from a menu of twenty Ayurvedic treatments, both general and localised.
The Priya Ayurvedic Spa has five spacious treatment rooms ranged around a central courtyard garden. The building has been designed along traditional lines with beautifully proportioned ceilings and elegantly carved pillars. The whole place is airy and well ventilated, with a wonderful calming atmosphere in which treatments are practised in an unhurried and quiet way. We ensure that all the preparations we use are 100% natural, organically produced and sourced in a way that does not impact negatively on the environment.
Yoga is an indispensable aid to good health and our yoga programme at the Hermitage is under the tutelage of Shri Anil Kumar.
Two types of meditation courses are available. Prana Energising Technique is taught by Anil Kumar throughout the year in 1,2, and 3 day courses. Transcendental Meditation (TM) is taught by our cultural director Alistair Shearer (when he is at the hotel) in 4, 5, and 6 days courses.
If necessary our doctor may recommend an appropriate food menu to be followed during the course of your stay.

A seven day course
There is a universal field of intelligence which underlies all life. Ignorance of this field results in suffering, whereas acting in harmony with it brings success and happiness into our life in a natural way, supplementing our individual efforts with the spontaneous support of others and our surroundings.
Based on traditional wisdom of the Vedic philosophy, this course will teach you an easy and enjoyable way to contact this field and enjoy the benefits. Practical techniques will be combined with an understanding of consciousness and the principles that structure body, mind and spirit, resulting in an inspiring vision of the purpose and destiny of human existence.
 |
Course leader
Alistair Shearer has been teaching meditation therapies around Europe for over thirty years. His translations of the key Sanskrit yoga texts such as the Yoga Sutras and the Upanishads have won acclaim from critics as various as Ram Dass, Jacob Needleman and John Updike.

Healing Practices from Yoga and Tantra.... CLICK FORE MORE DETAILS
with Dr. Alka Tyagi
In the Indian tradition, the word that describes health is ‘Svasthaya’ which is made up of ‘Sva’ (lit. self) and 'Sthita' (established). Which means: to be ' Svastha’ or healthy, is to be "established in the Self". Hence health is not mere physical health in our traditional wisdom. It is a more holistic concept which needs an individual to be so balanced on all levels (physical, mental, emotional and spiritual) that he/she is ever established in ' the Self '.
This SEVEN day programme focuses on holistic health by using ancient practices from the sciences of Yoga and Tantra and bringing them to the realms of contemporary needs and contexts. Life today constantly throws up multiple kinds of stress over which we seem to have no control. This imbalance caused by excessive mental activity manifests itself in the form of physical illnesses, emotional deprivation and spiritual unquiet.
The Yogic practices like Asanas and Pranayama, aim to begin a healing process at the physical, mental and emotional levels. And Meditations, chosen from the Tantras, aim to unburden the mind from excessive thought constructs . Lectures based on theoretical precepts given in the ancient texts, are chosen to resolve the modern conflicts that beset us due to our lack of comprehension of cosmic principles.
Therefore, each day is scheduled to include practical yoga sessions-- suited to individual health needs-- and theoretical discourses on the practical wisdom from our philosophical systems that light up the way to liberation from cycles of pain and sorrow. Major texts that would be referred to are:
1. Nine Major Upanishads
2. Patanjali's Yoga Sutra
