A place that combines the tranquil and rejuvenating simplicity of a retreat with the comfort and elegance of a first-class hotel.
Northern Kerala
Northern Kerala, traditionally known as Malabar, is a cultural jewel awaiting discovery. While visitors have thronged to the south, here empty beaches fringed by coconut plantations, uncrowded inland waterways and lush hillside spice gardens still preserve an undisturbed rhythm of life set against the immensity of the ocean. Neeleshwar Hermitage is the retreat hotel of northern Kerala, offering an oasis of calm that is only two hours from Mangalore international airport and directly linked with the rest of the state by air, road and train.
Breathtaking!
Set in twelve naturally landscaped acres, The Hermitage is built according to the traditional architectural principles of Kerala Vastu. These dictate that a building should be constructed in such a way as to conform to the subtle laws of nature operating in the area. So the whole site is oriented to the east and the rising sun, while its component buildings are all placed in correct relation to each other, the four directions and the site as a whole. As a result, you will blessed by the hidden lords of the land, and your sense of enjoyment and well-being will be greatly enhanced.
The buildings are constructed in the local idiom of wood and laterite and modelled on palm-thatched fisherman huts. The site overlooks a gloriously unspoiled beach of sand, stretching as far as the eye can see in both directions and giving onto a sea that is clean and safe for swimming, with no sudden drops or strong undertows.
